Why the Weyr Galifrey Group is no longer on Twitter/X

In late 2006, I created an account on the relatively new social media site Twitter, @dragon. Yeah, I lucked out. For over 15 years, I regularly used @dragon to not only write my random thoughts, but to follow interesting beings, keep up to date with random news, and meet more dragons. It was fun.

In March 2022, Twitter's automated system suspended my account, then completely kicked me off the platform and deleted my account two months later because someone claimed I was under 13. This despite the fact I used the proper support forms within 24 hours to upload proof that I was in my 30s when I created the account, along with several dozen support tickets opened since.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed and upset at Twitter for not only doing this and causing me to lose the data history and friends I had built up there, but having no possible way to escalate this to an actual person that could attempt to resolve their error. Having a completely automated support system with no paths of escalation for a company with their value, size, and reach is ridiculous. And then their automated system now will no longer even hear my complaints, stating I have no account (because their system deleted it), and happily suggests I open a new account. I refuse to open a new account and build another name/brand on their platform, only for them to suddenly without warning delete that new account for no proper reason than their error again.

Further, at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023, Twitter was bought out and renamed as X. The site has since shown no plans to moderate, allowing hate speech and racism to dominate. It now feels like nothing but an echo chamber of the worse that humanity has to offer, getting worse daily in a never-ending feedback loop.

While I know a lot of people have now dropped X because of that, I hate that I didn't have the option to leave on my own terms. Specifically, I will never have the list of all the people that I followed or followed me. I have found some on other platforms in an attempt to re-establish connections, but there are others that I will never be able to remember or find that I genuinely was interested in keeping up with. I will never have all of the tweet history that I had in using 15 years of the site. As a side note, this should be a reminder and lesson to all - if you are using someone else's site, you are using that site on their whim. Always have anything you want to keep regularly backed up elsewhere. Especially if it's on a mass social media site or anywhere on the cloud.

Therefore I am boycotting Twitter/X and will no longer have a presence on their platform since they don't want me there. Any account that claims to be me or related to me or the Group is lying and fake. Please feel free to reach me at any of the other official platforms I'm on below. Thanks.
